The programming of Emerging Artists - Contemporary experimental films and video art from Germany presents a selection of films by young German filmmakers that explore the limits of cinema through perceptive games, reflections on how our memories can be contaminated by popular culture, investigate representations of the art market through digital avatars, reclusive epistles that dissociate the word from the image, or questions how history is manipulated and what power structures it hides.
The screening unites 8 short films: “Beasts Of No Nation”, directed by Krzysztof Honowski, a film-essay about nationalism and its rise across Europe, told through the eyes of a multicultural generation; “Centauress”, directed by Deniz Simsek, about memory; “Liquid Traits of an Image Apparatus”, directed by Vera Sebert, a perceptive game that defies the spectator; “From My Desert”, directed by Veneta Androva, about the art market; “If There Is Love, You Will Take It”, directed by Daniel Hopp, in which robot-teddys play cards for money; “Letters From Silivri”, directed by Adrian Figueroa, a reconstitution of the incarceration of the Turkish philanthropist Osman Kavala; “Nicer, Soon”, directed by Julius Weigel, about the contamination of memories by popular culture; and “Top Down Memory”, directed by Daniel Theiler, a reflection on the ways in which history is manipulated.
The screening takes place on November 24, at 5:30pm, at Passos Manuel, and the tickets are available at www.bol.pt. Also, the films will be available online two hours after the screening.
