Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival is a festival dedicated to "cinema of the real" that takes place in the Northern Portuguese city of Porto between the 20th and 30th of November 2021.
The Industry and Press Accreditations application process for Porto/Post/Doc 2021 is now open. You can register or update your profile on our Visitor Page.
In 2021, Porto/Post/Doc is preparing a special programme dedicated to sustainability issues, entitled Ideas to Postpone the End of the World, a thematic programme that brings climate, social, political and ideological issues to the debate table. This will also be the guiding theme of the already established and recurrent Forum of the Real, which will be composed of three debate panels dedicated to the themes: Earth, Community and Freedom.
As has already been announced, the festival will open with a cinema concert of José Leitão de Barros' newly restored Maria do Mar, set to live music by the Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra. The festival will also present a retrospective of the work of the North American director Theo Anthony and a focus on the work of the Pakistani artist Basir Mahmood.
As in previous years, several new films will compete for the Porto/Post/Doc Grand Prize and the Cinema Falado section will once again be competitive, where films linked by the Portuguese language are presented. The festival also presents a competition (and award) for student films entitled Cinema Novo. In the usual sidebars, Porto/Post/Doc will present new documentaries about music and pop culture in Transmission; recent Spanish spoken films in Cinefiesta; and, yet again, the festival will host an ambitious Educational Project, aimed at children and teenagers.
As a meeting point for creators, audiences and film professionals, Porto/Post/Doc aims to promote film culture by bringing to the screen new forms of contemporary cinema. In addition to the film programmes, the festival will create a space for networking via its Industry Screenings, where cinema made in Porto and in the north of Portugal will be promoted, and Arché Porto – a development Lab and a pitching session for film professionals.
Porto/Post/Doc will occupy different cultural venues in Porto, such as Teatro Municipal do Porto - Rivoli, Cinema Passos Manuel and Coliseu Porto Ageas. Porto is a historic and cosmopolitan city with a vibrant creative community and warm nightlife.
