Catembe documents the seven days of the week in the daily life of Lourenço Marques. After a series of interviews in which the director himself asks passers-by in downtown Lisbon what they know about Lourenço Marques, the film sets to the Mozambican city, in a hybrid between documentary and fiction, following a girl named Catembe. The film was originally 87 minutes long, but was heavily censored and reduced to a 45-minute version (a total of 103 cuts – the Portuguese film most cut by Estado Novo censorship) which, in turn, would be completely banned. Unfortunately, only 11 minutes of the censored material remain, which will be shown after the cut version.
