Between 1972 and 1981, Annie Ernaux (the most recent winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature) and her family recorded their daily lives and travels (including to Portugal) on dozens of rolls of Super-8 film. Six decades later, the writer (who is now directing for the first time) returns to those images to reflect on a time and a society. As she herself stated, "on reviewing these films I realised that they constituted not only a family archive, but also a testimony to the aspirations of a social class in the post-May '68 period. I wanted to integrate these silent images into a narrative that crossed the intimate, the social and history, in order to make the taste and colour of those years palpable."
Les Années Super-8 premiered at Cannes film festival.
The screening will be followed by a debate with writer Susana Moreira Marques.
