After having presented, in national premiere, Air Conditioner (2020, by Fradique), Porto/Post/Doc once again highlights new Angolan cinema, and the Geração 80 collective in particular. Our Lady of the Chinese Shop is an urban tale where several stories intersect: a Chinese shopkeeper puts on sale a singular plastic image of Our Lady, a bereaved mother seeks peace, an attentive barber starts a new cult, and a disoriented young man seeks to avenge his friend's disappearance. A raw portrait of Luanda's daily reality.
Our Lady of the Chinese Shop premiered at Locarno Film Festival.
This session also screens The Bath directed by Maria Inês Gonçalves.
