Located in Ukraine, Donbass is a core region of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Director Sergei Loznitsa - whose films always deal with the weight of History, but also with the worldly lives of his characters - uses this conflict to show us the absurd and violent side of the war. On the one hand, Loznitsa tells us little stories about the small powers and the men who feed on them. But, on the other hand, the violence of the war suddenly erupts on the screen, jeopardizing our own humanity. This is the second time that the Ukrainian director is screened in the Porto/Post/Doc competition, after The Event, in 2015. (Daniel Ribas)
