In the city of Taipei, which never sleeps, Mr. Kuo and Mrs. Lin cook rice. Every night they cook rice in a restaurant and shelter for all those who are passing by and who will certainly have this nightlife in common. Filmed in Super16 and awarded with the Special Jury Prize at the last Locarno Festival, Nicole Vögele invites us to look at the life that often escapes us and, right there, the poetic nature of daily life where everything, when enveloped in darkness, acquires an aura of chimaera. Vögele takes advantage of gentle movements of the camera and the fixed and slow shot to create a kind of cinematographic meditation, summoned through colours and impressions. An exercise in capturing the time that goes through the characters and the space that surrounds them. Until the day when the repetition of the night breaks, to remind us that there is still sea.
