Out of competition, Transmission presents the creative processes of two iconic figures in the music industry. ENO, a generative documentary about the musician, producer, composer, and visual artist Brian Eno. The film, directed by Gary Hustwit, uses the same creative methodology that Eno adopts in the studio with his music and compositions, where an initial stimulus is inserted into a computer program that develops it, but never follows the same path or iteration twice, thus producing a different result each time.
Meanwhile, Sonic Youth's vocalist and guitarist Lee Ranaldo reveals the behind-the-scenes of the recording of his 2017 solo album Electric Trim in Hello Hello Hello : Lee Ranaldo : Electric Trim. Both the director and the musician will be present in Porto for the screening of the film.
Finally, the program will also include the documentary-performance Ressaca Bailada, by Portuguese band Expresso Transatlântico. Directed by Sebastião Varela, the production presents an audiovisual version, performed live by the musicians, of the band’s self-titled album, starring a wide cast that includes names like Inês Pires Tavares, Laura Dutra, Rita Blanco, Nuno Nolasco, and Vicente Gil.
