Porto/Post/Doc organizes a free BLOCK PARTY this Saturday

by Porto/Post/Doc / 15 11 2023

At the start of the first weekend of Porto/Post/Doc, the festival takes to the street and occupies the ground floor of Garagem Passos Manuel for a BLOCK PARTY in good American tradition. This Saturday, November 18th, between 3pm and 8pm, there will be performances by doma, Serial and D-One. Access to the party is free.

redoma is a new duo from Porto, signed by Carolina Viana (singer and rapper) and Joana Rodrigues (producer). Both following their academic paths in music, they met during their degree, in 2017, at ESMAE. Throughout 2020 and 2021, they developed a unique way of communicating with each other. This creative effort culminated, in 2022, in the release of the EP “parte”, an existentialist manifesto characterized by a rap sound with a deconstructed and poetic rhythm. In 2023, they will continue presenting their work and preparing to publish new themes.

As the producer of Mind da Gap, Serial revolutionized the national Hip Hop scene. He was the first to use sampling in a structured way or to use equipment characteristic of the best Boom Bap. He is, without a doubt, the most important producer in the history of the national movement and the one who never fails. As a DJ, he changed the face of the city in the 90s, with his residency at the mythical Comix Bar and continues to be a major activist in the Invicta Rap scene.

D-One began his musical career in 2001 and is today one of the most prominent DJs and urban music producers in Portugal. It has literally been creating a lot of “noise” in the main nightclubs in Porto, but it also has a lot of prestige in other areas of the country. In the musical spectrum that ranges from Hip-Hop to Dancehall and R&B, he is the most requested DJ in the undefeated city today, maintaining an average of around 100 performances per year, between DJ Sets and concerts.

The party is part of the special program marking 50 years of Hip Hop. Alongside this, Porto/Post/Doc created a special film program that revisits the history of the genre in its multiple facets, screening: Style Wars, Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives, Lil Peep. Everybody’s Everything, Nas: Time Is Illmatic, Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme and You Can’t Create the World Twice.

Hip Hop 50: A Celebration also includes two conversations: Words that transform with Capicua, Fábio Silva and Rui Miguel Abreu, taking place on November 22nd in Batalha, and Nó das Antas: where Porto's Hip Hop is going, with Ace , Maze, André Carvalho and Ricardo Farinha, scheduled for November 25th at Batalha.
