Portuguese cinema will be on focus in the 2018 edition of the Locarno festival, which starts on August 1st. The First Look section of the Swiss festival, dedicated to award works in post-production, will focus on Portuguese cinema in a program supported by ICA - Cinema and Audiovisual Institute.

The film projects by Tiago Hespanha, Rodrigo Areias, Nuno Bernardo, Rossana Torres and Hiroatsu Suzuki, Vicente Alves do Ó and Pedro Neves Marques, which will be completed between September and November of this year, will be screened in Locarno for a specialized audience (agents, distributors and curators). The jury - composed by José Luis Rebordinos (San Sebastián Film Festival), Janet Pierson (SXSW) and Eva Sangiorgi (Viennale) - will award the First Look prize which shall facilitate the concluding process of the winning film.

Apart from that, the Locarno International Film Festival also has more Portuguese presence, namely co-productions: "Como Fernando Pessoa Salvou Portugal" by Eugène Green, and "Anything at All" by Dídio Pestana, are part of the section Signs of Life; and "3 Years Later" by Marco Amaral and "Grbavica" by Manel Raga Raga, will join the Pardi di Domani competition, in which the Portuguese director Marta Mateus will be a jury.

The 71st edition of the Locarno Festival takes place between 1st and 11th August 2018.
