Portugal and Porto/Post/Doc represented at Berlinale

The documentary  "Taste of Cement", winner of Biberstein Gusmão Award (for best emerging author) of Porto/Post/Doc 2017, joins the section LOLA at Berlinale. The International Film Festival of Berlin – Berlinale, that takes place until February 25, is one of the most important cinema events of the world.

The film by Ziad Kalthoum, that portraits the daily life of syrian refugees at Beirut, will be screened within the section LOLA at Berlinale, a project by Berlinale, Deutsche Filmakademie and German Films (entity responsible for promoting German films). This program show up films nominated to the German Film Awards (aka LOLA) by Deutsche Filmakademie.

Besides Kalthoum, several directors that have been at Porto/Post/Doc will present new works at Berlinale: Sergei Loznitsa, with "Den' Pobedy (Victory Day)", Evangelia Kranioti, with "Obscuro Barroco", Lav Diaz, with "Ang Panahon ng Halimaw (Season of the Devil)" and also Göran Hugo Olsson, with "That Summer".

André Santos and Marco Leão also flew from Porto to Berlin. After the integral retrospective during the last edition of Porto/Post/Doc, the first feature film of the duo, "Na Floresta" (provisory title), was selected to Project Labs of Berlinale Talents, that supports the development of films in progress.

But Portuguese cinema will take over Berlin in this 68th edition of the festival. Three short films are competing for the third consecutive Golden Bear for the national cinema: João Salaviza and Ricardo Alves Jr. present "Russa", "Madness" by João Viana and "Onde o Verão Vai (episódios da juventude)", by David Pinheiro Vicente, a 21-year-old young filmmaker.

The feature films “A Árvore”, by André Gil Mata, "Our Madness", by João Viana and "Mariphasa", by Sandro Aguilar, will be screened at Forum. Concerning the jury's pannel, the director Diogo Costa Amarante (Golden Bear's winner in 2017) joins the jury of Berlinale Shorts and the programmer Cíntia Gil will join the documentary jury. 

The team of Porto/Post/Doc will be present at Berlinale, taking place from February 15 to 25.
