The nominees for the 2023 edition of the Oscar have been announced. The list of nominations highlights three films that integrated the official selection of last year's Porto/Post/Doc.
Starting with the historic Portuguese debut in the final nomination stage. Ice Merchants, by João Gonzalez, had been making an extraordinary journey in national and international festivals, bringing together 107 selections for festivals and a total of 44 awards. The first Portuguese film to be nominated for an Oscar competes in the category of Best Animated Short Film.
Closing honors were given to the work of Laura Poitras, which deals with the life and work of Nan Goldin, a seminal American photographer and artist. All The Beauty and The Bloodshed competes for the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film. In the same category, it will face A House Made of Splinters, by Simon Lereng Wimont, a film that won the Teenage prize at the last PPD.
The award ceremony is scheduled for March 14th.
