El Hadj, a Senegalese student in Paris, expects to finish his degree and return home. When he fails to renew his residence permit, he is detained and threatened with deportation. Faced with the choice of remaining in France without papers or returning home, he sees the future he imagined confronted by borders and the expectations surrounding him.
