Opening with an address by Vicente Monroy, programmer at Cineteca de Madrid and author of Breve historia de la oscuridad, this session explores the cultural and social role of independent cinemas in today’s Europe. The discussion features the experiences of Numax (Santiago de Compostela) and Cinema Ideal (Lisbon), two examples of how collaboration between independent exhibition venues can generate new curatorial approaches and strengthen regional film networks. The roundtable will focus on key topics such as audience development, curatorial strategies, and funding opportunities, fostering a dialogue on how to sustain and expand independent film culture within the current European landscape.
