Zahra and Maria meet at university in Bucharest in the late 1970s. When Zahra returns to Iran and Maria remains in Romania, they begin exchanging letters that follow the fall of the Shah, the Islamic Revolution, and the decline of the Soviet empire. Two women and two countries move in opposite directions — a story of friendship, rebellion, feminism, disillusionment, and longing.
