In 2019 Porto/Post/Doc dedicated a focus to Lithuanian cinema, inviting filmmaker Audrius Stonys to show his work and present other films from his country. It was therefore inevitable to show the cinema of Jonas Mekas. Although he developed his career as a director, producer, exhibitor, distributor and critic in New York (where they call him the "grandfather of avant-garde cinema"), he never lost his Lithuanian roots. Fragments of Paradise is a touching, intimate and revealing portrait of Mekas - the only fair way to celebrate the work of an artist who discovered in the film camera (both film and video) the key to the world, to others and their secrets.
Fragments of Paradise premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
