In 1963, Paulo Rocha made one of the most important films in the history of Portuguese cinema, Os Verdes Anos. Inspired by the French Nouvelle Vague, Rocha portrayed a generation (the one that migrated from the interior to the coast), and a neighbourhood (Alvalade, on the edge of the capital). What has become of these places, and these faces? Six decades later, the directors (who live next to one of the urban décors of Rocha's film) went in search of what remains of that city, and found a metropolis emptied by the pandemic on the way to cosmopolitan indifference. And when the city crumbles, a diva shines forth: long live Isabel Ruth!
Where Is This Street? or Without Before Nor After premiered at the Locarno festival.
