Following a very successful showcase of classic and recent Portuguese films at DokuFest in Kosovo in August of this year and as part of the collaboration between Porto/Post/Doc and DokuFest we are proud to present to the audience in Porto a showcase of documentary and fiction work made by Kosovan filmmakers or in co-production with Kosovo, all of them made between 2015 and 2018. In total 10 films will be screened, including a BAFTA winning short Home by British born-Kosovo based filmmaker and artist Daniel Mulloy, a film that travelled to more than 100 international film festivals, Fence by super talented Lendita Zeqiraj that has already qualified for Oscars, a pair of war themed short films; Smoke by Belgrade based Gorana Jovanovic that was produced under DokuFest’s own training programme called Stories We Tell and Waiting by Kosovo born-London based Laura Kajtazi-Testa, a somber look at the missing from the Kosovo war and the search for their remains. Young and promising filmmakers appear across the programme, including two feature-length documentaries that are already doing nice festival runs as well as two shorts. In there you’ll also find two very different medium-length documentaries, one very personal and comprised of home made VHS recordings before and during the war in Kosovo titled Recollection and Sarabande about one of the most famous Kosovan artist, guitar virtuoso Petrit Çeku as he prepares to record the Bach Cello Suites in Spain. I hope that this selection will offer the viewer an insight into filmmaking practice but also into daily life of Europe’s youngest country.
