In "--- --------" Thom Andersen and Malcolm Broderick thoroughly explore the editing process of a film. They start with a predetermined structure, following a sequence of image/sound equations and introducing random variants. While vertically "--- -------" follows a rigid structure; horizontally it is completely arbitrary. In the end, the result is a film that evokes the pungent and frenetic emerging rock culture in Los Angeles during the 60s… or simply “A documentary about Rock’n’Roll”. (Sérgio Gomes)
