For the second consecutive year, Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival will present, in 2026, the Human Rights in Motion Award, promoted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The distinction was established in 2024, at the initiative of the PACE President, and honours the director of the documentary that best promotes human rights and the defence of democratic values. The winner receives a prize of 5,000 euros, as well as a commemorative plaque.
The Human Rights in Motion Award is presented annually within the framework of four international documentary film festivals: FIPADOC, Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, Krakow Film Festival and Porto/Post/Doc. According to PACE, the award is drawn from among the films submitted to each of these festivals and is decided by a jury selected by the festival itself.
The continuation of this collaboration reinforces Porto/Post/Doc’s position as a festival attentive to the relationship between cinema, human rights and the public sphere. In 2025, the festival presented the Human Rights in Motion Award for the first time to “Rule of Stone”, by Danae Elon, during that year’s closing ceremony.
The 2026 cycle has already honoured “Trade Secret”, by Abraham Joffe, at FIPADOC, and “Birds of War”, by Janay Boulos and Abd Alkader Habak, at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, confirming the continuity and international visibility of this initiative throughout the year.
With the award returning in 2026, Porto/Post/Doc consolidates its presence within an international network that recognises documentary cinema as a form of critical reflection and a defence of the fundamental values of democracy and human rights.
