During 2000, Vitaly Mansky (director of Under the Sun, screened at Porto/Post/Doc 2015), then responsible for the documental department of the Russian state television station, documented the rise to power of Vladimir Putin. Almost two decades later Putin's Witnesses reveals images of Putin's entire political operation and his team in a rare and unlikely behind-the-scenes access to a power strategy that has endured until now. Through his own voice, Mansky creates a reflective narrative, built on a montage game between the document almost complicit of a political turn and intimate images of his familiar experience.
