On the border between Russia and Ukraine, there is a shelter for socially vulnerable children. Danish director Simon Lereng Wilmont followed the lives of three siblings, Sasha, Eva and Kolya, who lived there for nine months. Premiered weeks before the second advance of Russian troops in 2022, the film depicts the aftermath of the Ukraine War that started as early as 2014. A film about family and social breakdown that is also an ode to perseverance and children's extraordinary capacity for wonder, even in the most difficult times.
A House Made Of Splinters had its world premiere at the Sundance festival, where it was awarded the prize for Best Documentary Direction in the World Cinema section.
