In the most recent chapter of his cinematic expedition through the exotic, Gabriel Abrantes returns to Brazil, more specifically to the Xingu Indigenous Park, for a new poetic fable that mixes, once again, several visual and cultural references. "The Artificial Humors" tells an unusual, caustic love story between a futuristic robot and an indigenous girl, involving the viewer (as already usual in Gabriel Abrantes) in a complex web of suggestions and provocations around sensitive issues such as globalisation, sexuality and identity. Although visually very suggestive and appealing, this film mainly reinforces the storyteller-status of the filmmaker through narratives more influenced by popular culture and B series. (Paulo Cunha)
